What scouts look for in a young player
Technique matters, but decision making, character and consistency often decide more.
A scout watches a match differently from an ordinary spectator. Besides the ball they watch many other things and try to understand how a player will develop over the next few years.
Decisions under pressure
How you receive the ball, where you pass it and how quickly you read the situation. A correct, well-timed decision is often a rarer quality than a flashy trick.
Play without the ball
Where you stand when a teammate has the ball, how you open up space and how you track back. All of this shows on video too, as long as the footage is not only your touches on the ball.
Character and reaction to mistakes
A scout watches how you behave after a mistake, how you talk to teammates and the referee, and how hard you work until the final whistle.
Consistency
One beautiful goal means less than steady performances over several matches. That is why clips from different matches are always better than a single moment.
How ScoutPro helps
A complete profile, a status (for example "looking for a club") and two or three videos make you visible to scouts in search straight away. Many scouts filter by position, age and foot, so be sure to fill in those fields.
