Nutrition and recovery after training
Water, enough food and sleep: three things that lock in the benefit of training.
The result of training is not made on the pitch alone. What you do after training decides how quickly you recover for the next session.
Water
Drink water before, during and after training. In hot weather you lose fluid faster.
Food after training
Soon after training, eat food with carbohydrates and protein, for example rice, chicken, eggs, yoghurt or fruit. Regular, varied meals matter more than any single "miracle" product.
Sleep
Sleep is the most powerful recovery tool. Young athletes need more sleep than adults.
Active rest
Light jogging, stretching or swimming on a rest day helps the muscles recover.
